The first lake survey was conducted by Jason Broekstra, Biologist, Vice President of Great Lakes Operations, PLM Lake & Land Management Corp. on Wednesday, June 5, beginning with sunny skies and calm waters. Along the shoreline of the public access there was sparse dead and decomposing Eurasian WaterMilfoil (EWM) with some native milfoil. This is a very good news since the survey completed last fall indicated high levels of EWM in this area which was treated very heavily. The was a lot of elodea in that same area which is not treatable.
Along the east coast, a pocket of EWM, healthy and growing, was found and treated at a high dose with Renovate. (Same as last falls application rate 160 lbs/acre.)
No active EWM was found along the north shore (again where many active plants were last year) or west shore (where a large patch was found last fall).
Several pockets of elodea were also found near the southeast corner.
Overall assessment concluded the lake was in very good shape and the treatment was minimal.
Based on the slow start of the 2013 season it is anticipated that additional EWM will grow yet this year. Therefore, future surveys and potential treatment should be expected yet this summer.
